How did Aylmer’s historic centre develop?
Short answer
Aylmer’s old centre grew around a river landing and a road used to bypass navigation obstacles. Charles Symmes had land divided into lots in 1828, and the courthouse built in 1852 reflected the settlement’s regional role.
